Y2K Pro:

I've been flying since DC-3's. Yes this is new. They used to announce mechanical problems in flight; not before boarding ;o>.

Best wishes,,,,,

Yeah, I think they are finally starting ot get a handle on checking out the plane before boarding...

I hope I don't get flamed for it, but I must agree with Y2K Pro. Citing unnamed mechanical problems is highly questionable. I fly a great deal, and believe it or not, flights do get cancelled for mechanical reasons. United, in my experience, will sometimes perform "economic cancellations" (i.e. cancel the flight because it's not full enough) and then _tell_ the passengers that the plane had mechanical problems. I don't know what airline your associate was on, but United does fly to Logan. Delta flies quite a few birds there, too, and I've had Delta flights cancelled on me before for mechanical reasons.

I am surprised that someone would try to draw connections here. Airlines have been cancelling flights for mechanical reasons since Delta was a crop-dusting outfit. Maybe you just never noticed before, L&L.
