Magazine Photography with digital?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Can any one tell me if any one has had any experience of using a digital camera for magazine photographs or even if any magazines accept them? I am refering more specifically to the Olympus C-2500L price range. Obviously I can appreciate that it may not be possible for large full page spreads to be taken with these cameras but if any one can tell me the typical maximum print size I could achieve from a 1700x1400 photograph I would be most grateful.

Thanks, sam

Thousands of Coolpix 900 and 950 images have appeared worldwide in a number of magazines and newspapers. Some US Newspapers are using them for 4-6 column width cover images (everyday). I've seen a picture of Guinness Stout (mmmm) appear full bleed 8.5" x 11" in Epicurean magazine. (my guess-133 or 150 line screen by eyeball).

Sam - I know photographers that are using Sony DSC-F505 images in magazines. Your C-2500 should do fine. I've been able to make a 150 dpi scan play on a doubletruck 11x13 mag for a Lexus Ad - No quality loss. So you do the conversion on your digital images. An average bet would say no larger than 5x7 for ultimate quality.
