Hydrogen Peroxide and High altitudes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

I had heard once or twice about high altitude climbers drinking hydrogen peroxide as part of a daily nutrition plan while on climbs. I was wondering if there were any positive or negative effects of this practice that were actually documented. Does it enhance the ability to maintain high physical activity at high altitudes where oxygen becomes scarce?

I'm no expert but I've never heard of H2O2 being useful for acclimitization. In fact, it sounds downright dangerous. That stuff is nasty, isn't it poisonous in moderate amounts? Plus it's heavy, if you're thinking of hauling up a couple gallons of H2O2, why not instead carry an oxygen mask and a couple of cylinders of the real stuff?

Ralph reckon the stuff rocks. Put it in your cereal, put it on your crumpet. Just get it in ya!!!! ;)

it sounds like a lot of hard work and people can manage without it so why use it?
