wanted to mention about the 2500bitrate video cd

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

ok for those who are trying this, to let you know now that i had a file roughly 34. something minutes, and it would not fit on a 74min cdr. it did however fit fine on an 80min cdr and even then close to the end. So if you use this method im just letting you know that maybe a 32min or less file would be safe for a 74min cdr--thanks

Doug,

If you want to have higher resolution at 2000kbs, you should take a look at ATI AIW 128 16Mb AGP2X or PCI version (there is also a 32Mb version at 279.00). The 16Mb board goes for about 169.00US. It has the capability of mpeg1 and mpeg2 ranging from 400kbs to 8Mbs! it also has AVI capability as well. It's a good board all around at a reasonable price. It's best feature is the motion estimation slider that allows higher quality picture during high motion scenes. I have both the Dazzle and the ATI. Both are necessary for me for different purposes. Dazzle is convenient for those moment that you're on the go (USB + Notebook + PCcam + microphone = digital camcorder). The ATI is a permanent fixture on my desktop. I've high quality VCD from both of these units after encoding but man does it take a long time. Therefore, i acquired yet another unit for recording on the fly and i am very happy with it as well (Vitec RT-6 and Darim M-filter). Anyway, here is the settings i used on the ATI AIW 128 that i've used to get VHS quality VCD bitrate or S-VHS quality @ 2000kbs. 1. capture settings type : mpeg1 stream mpeg setting : blank for screen format

If you don't have CPU power the higher settings will mess up your audio/video sync due to frame drop issue. video bitrate 3250000 bps (Mpeg2 setting) higher video bitrate only produce ragged artifact around the object after encoding process. audio bitrate 224000bps @ 44.1KHz 16bits Stereo These settings should get you about 25Mb/min Panasonic Encoding process input video : mpeg1 clip from capture process input audio : mpeg1 clip from capture process (same file) output file type : mpeg1 video stream video bitrate : 2000kbs audio bitrate : 128kbs @ 44.1KHz 16bits Stereo motion estimation : half pixel image process type : natural image noise reduction : medium (strong depends on quality of input) video filter : strong (strongest depends on degree of movement) color (gamma correction) : TV (PC if it is your final objective) Encode and wait.... lnguyen

I was bored today and decide to play around with the ATI to find the sweet spot for it to capture and record on the fly without any software encoder assistant, since you've mentioned about 2500kbs video rate. What I've found that this card has a sweet spot at 1983200bps video data rate with motion estimation set at 17-18. Audio data rate is set at 128000bps @44100Hz. To make it further interesting i tried it out with a normal VHS tape in a S-VHS VCR. What i get out from this card is exactly what put into it!!!! same quality. I played it on my Pioneer and it is sweet.... lnguyen
