March Marathons

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

There is less than a month to go before the Ides of March, and yet very little mention has been made of OK's march marathons. Who is planning to run a marathon this March?

For starters, Mook will be taking a long marathon-like trail run. He would like to coordinate the start time with other runs in the Heartland and anywhere else. Let him know of your plans.

I have run a marathon in the spring each of the last two years. Two years ago a group of us ran around Clinton Lake -- about 28 miles. Last year Fritz and I ran a trail marathon at Lake Kanopolis -- also about 28 miles.

I don't think it would be a good idea to run so far this spring. I would be worried that such a long effort would leave me worn out when I should be focussing on getting ready for the relay champs.

On the other hand, it might be reasonable to do some sort of long O' practice during March. Maybe a long course at Knob Noster or a unorganized 4-hour rogaine. Any thoughts?

I thought Mook supposedly had his leg hacked off at the thigh by Mexican banditos, or that he blew up his knee or some such. Could it be he has tasted the sting of the taratula wasp and has gone delusional? The sting is reputed to be uncommonly horrible, after all.

How about running the full 30 mile trail on the east side of Perry? Right now, a marathon might work in towards the end of March, but I might delay it until late April, early May (like on my birthday, the 4th).
