Casper: Wow, thanks. That did ring a bell,(and I'm still hearing a funny echo for some reason. :-)

Sent me scurrying to my back issues of Analog. The most recent story I found by Spider Robinson was Orphans of Eden in the Aug 96 issue. And it didn't take place in Callahans'. Well, at least I know what I'm looking for, so I will reach further back in the archives and see if I can find a tale from Calahans' bar.

Thanks again. It amazes me the extensive and detailed references to science fiction writings here that so many here know and quote or refer to.
