SOSNOVY BOR, the Leningrad region, February 20 (Itar-Tass) - The second unit of the Leningrad nuclear power plant was activated at 19:40, Moscow time, on Sunday. The reactor is expected to reach a capacity of 1,000 megawatt by Monday evening, sources at the nuclear power plant told Itar-Tass.

The reactor was shut down on Friday by the automatic safety system due to a minor malfunction of the hydraulic equipment. A reactor can be activated only two days after its halt, in accordance with the rules.

The first and third units of the Leningrad nuclear power plant are working with a capacity of 1,000 megawatt each, and the fourth unit is undergoing repairs. The radiation background at the nuclear power plant and the adjoining sanitary zone of 30 kilometers is normal.
