A very gracious "thank you" to all the sysops of this forum. Had it not been for your willingness to accept a time consuming job, this forum probably would not still be here.

Thanks so much for all you have done! These are trying times but I believe "right" will prevail. If it does not, just know that because of you many people have been helped. We have received valuable information that we could not have acquired through the media. This is the place that provides information first. Perhaps we should all thank Mr. Greenspun and MIT also.

Thank you, Nadine.

Thanks Nadine,

Had a lovely afternoon and evening off in San Francisco yesterday. Visited an art museum, an organ recital concert, and had a delicious dinner in a hidden part of The City. Very relaxing.

Think we'll just add more Sysops to clean up the abusive and harassing trash since AOL appears to be so "unresponsive."

Some people simply have zero class.

;-D

BTW, will "chat" with Philip Greenspun when he returns Tuesday and see what other options we have available.

I like the 10 minutes between posts idea. It could be a problem for people like Carl and Homer that post a bunch of things in a row, but I don't think they would mind if it puts an end to this junk.

Also, maybe Philip could add some sort of "switch" that could be turned on to block an IP address from posting. A permanent block could cause problems for valid posters, but something that could be "turned on" when the SPAM starts, then "turned off" later could work.

Any other ideas folks? <:)=

If a 10 minute switch is the only practical way to stop the problem, I can live with it...

Thanks for all your hard work all you sysops!!! If a 10 minute switch is the only practical way to stop the problem, I can live with it...

-- Carl Jenkins (Somewherepress@aol.com), February 20, 2000.

Carl,

Your invaluable work is appreciated.

I think the Sysops have to find some solution.

If you can live with the "fix", I'm all for it too!

-- Michael (michaelteever@buffalo.com), February 20, 2000.

You're a good man Carl.

Perhaps Philip could even add a list, maintainable by the sysops, of people that are "exempt" from the 10 minute rule. The list could be based on at least a partial IP address, instead of an e-mail address. Otherwise LL could start SPAMing as Carl!

Just a thought. <:)=

I second the thanks to the sysops and Phil......this is the greatest information station! I have to get my Time Bomb 2000 fix two or more times a day.

It was a real education, while we prepared for Y2k, and now, it's still better than a newspaper for the news. I miss some of the oldtimers, but am appreciative of those who still post late breaking items. Such a shame that a few spoilers have to be a fly in the ointment.....this forum is definitely worth protecting!

Jo Ann- I need my fix twice a day too, ha! My husband and I get as much up to date news here as we do anywhere. First place I go to check out the latest events. No wonder it's a target; flies go for the good ripe fruit, not the hard green ones. Great site.

May the Sysops live forever!

Add my thanks to the list, sysops.

I couldn't bear to go back to CNN!!!

Thankyou Sysops for all your work in maintaining such a wonderful board. I've seen the creeps and flamers destroy other forums because no one would take the time to monitor and keep them out. Your work is very important and greatly appreciated.

To All The Sysops --

Many, many thanks for your dedication in keeping this forum going. You're all becoming the Energizer Bunnies of the internet.

A hearty Hip Hip Hooray! from my corner.

RE: Suggestions about what Mr. Greenspun can do - I was recently reminded that we are guests. I would like to volunteer to help or contribute financially to aid the continuation of this forum. It provided a "Civil Defense" type of preparedness info last year that I found invaluable.
