Kerry's Last Word

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

I'm a newbie to this site...and honestly feel as though I'm attending a relatives wake...it's been amazing to read the comments- they so reflect my own emotions of loss over Lucy's death. You could say this site and sharing of comments provides comfort in my/our time of loss. I"ve one question that is nagging me...at the very end of the show Romano says something like, Thank you when she cuts the suture, and then "that's o.k., a nurse can do that" as she is lifting the sheet...what exactly did she say? I thought she said "done" and then the sheet covered Lucy's angelic face. Could that be what she said? Done?????? What is that????? It threw me completely. I could understand if she said "no" - as if she (as chief of staff) felt the respondsibility or personal need to perform this act of closure. Can anyone enlighten me on the ending, I'd love to hear what others thought and to know exactly what the last word of this

Ann, I had the same problem as you did, I couldn't make out what Romano had said (and was not recording the epi, unfortunately). However, I think I heard Kerry answer Romano with "It's alright" or "It's OK", as in "I'll do it". As you said, probably meaning that she wanted to perform this final act herself as a kind of personal goodbye between herself and Lucy (whom initially she was supposed to be mentoring, remember?) Hope this clears things up for you. And thank you for clearing it up for *me*!

I think she said "I know" after Romano suggested a nurse could do it. I'm also a newbie to this awesome website and find great comradery here. I thought it was cool that Kerry said that. It was like "I know this is a nurse's job, but I'm not above it, and I want to do it to contribute something in respect." I also hope we get to see a funeral or more coworker reaction to the death but I realize that the ER style and past experience does show that we'll see a distraction episode next, usually a pretty good one though.

She said, "I know."

I watch ER with closed captioning and thus I'm able to see accurate spellings of character names as well as the exact dialogue. Therefore, the correct answer to this question is: Kerry said, "I know."

I thought that was absolutely beautiful. Laura did a wonderful job of acting.
