Welding a coil to a core wire

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

I need to weld a .018 OD coil, made from .003 wire to a .010 Dia. wire. The core wire is supposed to slide through the coil and one end of the coil is then welded to the .010 core wire. All materials are SST. I'd like to keep discolouration to a minimum. HELP and thanks The WIRECZAR

I have been researching our “Web-site Forum” and found that this question has not received a response. I hope that you have received your required information. I am sorry for the delay in response.

Other welding, and bonding methods other than resistance welding are available, such as GMAW, Braze, TIG, Laser, etc.

However, the following is some of the information required for us to properly help you:

1 Sketch or drawings of the assembly. 2 Material samples. 3 Weld quality requirements, strength, appearance, current carrying? 4 Number of welds required. 5 Production rates. 6 Do you require tooling to align the tube?

General Rule of Thumb:

Stainless Steel:Do not use less than 5 cycles if possible. 2 to 3 times pressure. 10 - 15% less current.

Due to the your material gauge I would suggest using capacitance discharge or high-frequency type equipment. Put the energy into the weld zone rapidly.

Good luck on your project.
