What was the deal with Dr. Weaver's reaction? Throwing up after they're taken to the e.r., etc...Is this just supposed to show that she is caring?

i think taht her reation was meanigful . i mean come on keyy really doesnt give a crap most of the time. i think this is the most i have ever seen her express emotions.......worthwhile. i think she need to find her a man....maybe romano...

I think the reason she threw up was because she had to drill threw Lucy's chest. It was someone she knew and that's why it effected her do much.

I agree that the drilling of a friend might have caused her reaction. I know I was thinking all the way through that scene that Kerry was shaking and my own first impulse would be to throw up also! Go Kerry! What an incredible episode!

Kerry cared for Lucy quite a bit. She had just finished ripping her chest open to try and save her life. Kerry is horrified by what has happened to two people she works with. Remember that Carter lived in her basement and they had a couple heart to heart talks. Carter took a message from a women who may be Kerry's real mom. Carter was the first person she told she was adopted. By that same token. Kerry probably felt like a mother to Lucy. Kerry has lost two people in her life this year. Alan Alda's character and now Lucy. I am glad they had her show some emotion. And it was fitting that it was such a raw emtion, throwing up, not breaking down crying.

If you remember from a previous episode, Kerry was the one who introduced that drill to the er ( the surgical team did not feel it was appropriate). Remember how elated Kerry was to finally get a chance to use it on a patient? She was so excited to use it and prove the need for it in the er. Then in this episode she had to take her much loved piece of equipment and use it on a much cared for colleague. Did you notice her hesitation before inserting the drill into Lucy's chest? It was almost poetic for her to have the reaction that she did. Yes, Kerry too is a human being!

It's not a drill. It's a sternal saw. Probably of the Stryker saw variety that has a blade that vibrates very fast so it will cut hard materials, but will not cut soft tissues like skin.

Why does it seem so odd? Kerry may be the disciplinarian of the ER but she has nearly always been portrayed as compassionate when it comes to patients and coworkers. To cite just a few of many examples - remember her dealings with Jeanie's HIV status, and Carol when she found out she was pregnant, and Mark after his attack, and that pro wrestler earlier in the season... the list goes on. Yes, she does have some horribly self-serving moments (like ditching Mark in the season opener) but in general, she has always been portrayed as a caring person, if not the most personable.

Plus, can you imagine what it must have been like not only to have to perform recussitation on a coworker and friend, but also to be the one to -find- them both laying on the floor in a supposedly safe hospital? I think anyone even remotely human would have been sickened by those events.
