I believe Richter's Herbs (www.richters.com, I think)sells either plants or seeds - I'm not sure which. But I know they have them, because I had stevia on my wish-list! BTW, what is everyones' FAVORITE stevia cookbook? I need to get an interlibrary loan list going.

Hi Daryll,

I don't know of anyplace within driving distance of you but we did notice that Mellingers nursery carries it. Their web site is: www.melingers.com The cost per plant is $4.75 and you can save seeds from it.

As for taste, I have not myself used it but I know several diabetics who say it is the sweetner of choice. I suppose the trick is just using how to use it.

Good Luck - Kim

Richters is where I bought mine.I,m not sure yet how the herb itself will harvest and taste, but the stevia powder that I buy is wonderful, does not enter the bloodstream as sugar, and I have developed a distaste for cane sugar now.I did try the purchased extract and it was pretty yucky.

I just got some stevia powder in little packets (look like regular sugar packets) to try, as we are on a low-carb diet to prevent diabetes and I don't like the artificial sweeteners. I like it in what I've used it for so far. I add a packet to our smoothies in the morning, and have used it in tea and plain home-made whole-milk yogurt. I don't know, though, how you would go about getting a useable product from the plants. Can somebody tell us?

I am now using stevia and I buy the pure powder. To use it you mix 1 teaspoon of stevia with 3 Tabelspoons of water and mix completely. Use an eye dropper to put on or in foods. The items I read warned not to get stevia mixed with fillers. So far it's really good and takes so little to sweeten things. I am diabetic so I was glad to find it and get off Monsantoes poison(Equal).
