Whatever happened to Daniel P. Meenehan?

What ever happened to Daniel P. Meenehan? Does anyone know? Does anyone even care anymore?... I do!

For a while there Dan Meenehan was being hailed as the best thing since sliced bread. That was back in '79 when Dan was one of SLOC's young "hired guns" that they liked to cart around to A-meets all across the country. It was Dan and Tony, and some of those other SLOCers. They'd bring these guys in, let 'em kick a little butt, then they'd stick 'em back in the van and drive on to the next meet. It must have been a hard life back then with cheap hotels, USGS maps and painted milk jugs for controls, but hey, who's counting anymore?

I guess a lot of those guys that hung around with Dan are long gone now, all washed up and moving on in their lives. Some of them maybe have grandkids and all. Whatever happened to Dan though? Of all the young guns he was supposed to be the one with the most raw talent. They had him pegged to win a US title by the mid-80's and to run for the US at the WOC.

With the kind of reputation that Dan was supposed to have there would be other clubs interested in his services, of course. OK knew about Dan obviously. Why didn't we attempt to make him an offer? I think he could have been ours for the taking. We may never know what Dan could have done for us. Think of what Dan might have done on a leadoff leg for OK at the relays!

Wait... we have Dan! Dan's one of us! Then what am I talking about not knowing what happened to Dan? I don't know what I've been rambling on about here, perhaps I lost my mind or something. I guess I've been guilty of taking Dan for granted all these years and sort of forgot about all he has done for OK.

Could a naturalized OKer every become a living legend?

I am not trying to pad my statistics!!! Are we still in the top 50?

Mook feels that padding OK's statistics is fine, but an attempt to pad personal statistics leaves just a bit to be desired. I suppose that means this is a "thorny" issue. Whether it is right or wrong then depends on ones intentions - is it personal gain or the betterment of OK?

By the way, OK currently stands at 48th among 247 active groups. We continue to improve, and will blow by Elevator Problem very soon now! If you take a look at the ER statistics you'll see an enormous number of people contributing. That's the reason behind their placing. If we sorted everything by substance or importance, their placing would be quite different.
