Who wanted out? Kellie Martin? Did the Show want her out?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Who wanted who out of the show and why? I liked Kellie Martin and eventually thought she and Carter would eventually become an item. Did she want out of show? Why? Or did the show want her out? I've been trying to find out why but haven't got too many answers yet. Thanks for all who reply.

Response to Who wanted out? Kellie Martin? Did the Show want her out ???????

From everything I have read and seen, she wanted out. She stated that she didn't have enough on air time to suit her, so she wanted out of her contract. The show obliged her..

I heard when she first came that she was just taking a break from what she was doing (school at Yale, I think) and she planned on going back there after this, so I'm guessing her leaving was always the plan (initiated by her).

I know Kellie got married last year, and I think I read somewhere that her new hubby just passed the bar - so it's possible he may have gotten a job somewhere as a lawyer and she wanted to go with him. I don't know for sure, but that would seem to be a possibility.

I saw Kellie on Regis and Kathie Lee and she stated that she never really felt like she fit in with the cast of ER and she had trouble with the lines (medical terms). People magazine said she is going back to college.

I dont know the whole story but I do know that she will be attending school here in CT at Yale. That is at least what our NBC news station said. I will miss her too, I thought she was a good actress.

Kellie also wanted out because her hubby got a job with a law firm in New York. The bi-coastal thing would not be fun, I imagine. Glad she's going back to Yale, though I will miss her on "ER". I actually started paying attention to it again when she joined the cast.

Let's remember the last ER actress who put her career on hold to be with her boyfriend--Sherry Stringfield. (Is that her surname? I can't even remember now!) And where is she? Without a job and without a boyfriend. As much as I respect Kellie's decision (if that was her decision, to be with her man), why couldn't the boyfriend find a firm in LA? Sheesh. Sorry for the rant; the similarities are striking.

I also read somewhere that she was an art history major in college and was going to return to school to finish up--in addition to recently haven gotten married and husband pursuing a career in New York. For some reason, I got a whole new appreciation for Kelly Martin after having read about her art history major! Not that I am an art history fan, but it gives another dimension to her as a person as well as an actress.

Kellie left because she was unhappy with the direction of her character and the amount of screen time she was being given. Her comment on Regis and Kathie Lee was about having trouble the first six months on the show tith the medical terminology. She said that everyone in the cast was great. Considering that she could make in one episode of ER what her husband will make in a year (not even) I doubt she would leave for that reason.
