Intriguing/Unusual Architects thread...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Sustainable Business & Living iForum : One Thread

In my internet ramblings, sometimes directed by a project, at others by personal curiosity, and still more as at result of connections made during some of my adventures travel around the Southwest in 1994 and later, was thinking it would be fun to have an unusual architects thread.

Plan to add a link here or description when the internet synchronicity strikes. Please feel free to contribute.

BTW... used to do a high level of computer imaging for Landscape, Interior and Architectural Designers. Learned fast to intrepret blueprints into photo-realistic visions.

Design is a distinct interest area of mine.

(Now where the heck did I put that list of Architects working on Sacred Geometry Building design? Humm).

James Hubbell, Architect

One of the most fascinating architects Ive met is truly a Renaissance Man. World famous artist/architect James Hubbell lives near Julian, California. Each Fathers Day in June, he holds an open house at his very unusual home.

Ive visited twice. Each time is an adventure in redefining space.

KUCHUMAA ECOLOGICAL CENTER: Tecate, Mexico. Includes a group of three classrooms educating children through ceramics, drawing, audiovisual, and a nature walk. The Center teachers the children of Baja about their environment. Completed in1998.

Hes done innovative work for a kindergarten in Tijuana, Mexico called: Jardin de Ninos la Esperanza. Hubbell's architecture and design was derived from observation of the unique needs of transient Mexicans, moving from close-knit family structures to a situation which placed them in the modern urban dilemma of disconnection from others and their environment.

(Note: This image does NOT do justice to his stunning stained glasswork. Some of the most beautiful things Ive ever seen. Somewhere I have a booklet about the stained glass doors he designed for the palace of the Sultan of Dhabi... Partway down the Friends of Kebyar page is a description of an article on James Hubbell...

James Hubbell
The Vision is a Song
James Hubbell is at once an artist, poet, artisan and architect. His Sea Ranch Chapel, included in this issue (photos by Philip Welch) is without any doubt a beautiful and precious jewel crafted with the care of a wizard. It almost seems risky to leave it out in the open! Projects include the Ilan-Lael studios and residence, Sea Ranch Chapel, and the Vint Residence. An open letter to Friends of Kebyar from Hubbell is included.
