Hyena, Killing Wildebeest

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

Shortly before sunrise in the Serengeti, a Hyena kills a wildebeest in dense fog. Just 10/15 feet away from our Land Rover, I catch the whole act on Fuji SuperG+ 400!

Canon EOS 1N. 70-200L at about 100mm and f/2.8 - 3.5

Serengeti National Park, near Seronera campsite.

This is great. Just when, I had begun to wonder if the hyena every made a kill himself or just mooched off the cheetah or the lion who had mooched off the cheetah or the leopard who had mooched off the cheetah, you actually show that he makes a kill. (I'm taking your word :)) The poor ole wildebeest has to be on the very bottom of the food chain...everything eats him...including the flies. Of course, you know that you are going catch hell about all this blood. :) But it is an excellent environmental shot.
