Poe's Motivation to work came from all of the deaths of the people he loved. His mother, foster mother, brother, and His wife all died from tuberculosis. Hence the short story The Masque Of The Red Death. Poe's mother died when he was very young, a friend of his mother's took him in. When she died, his foster father disinherited him. He was sent to A private school. His first love died of brain cancer. Every job he got he got fired from because of his drinking.
