Kodak FD500 Film Drive

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Has anyone heard about this new scanner/film drive from Kodak? I have heard it mentioned in a couple of places as "coming soon". I guess this would be the big brother, more advanced version of the Kodak FD300 Film Drive?

And another question, why has the Kodak FD300 Film Drive not gttten much exposure as a film scanner. Is it because it only scans APS or what? It certainly costs much less than most of the other scanners for about the same functionality and capability as the others.

You've got it in one!

The APS format is the reason it's cheap. Fuji's APS scanner is being sold off at a rock-bottom price too. I guess APS is going the way of 126, 110, and Disc film.

Why didn't they just add a magnetic stripe to 35mm?

APS is getting more popular, it's just taking more time than expected.

cheers
