Giving up the goat?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

There's a new rumor going around that the 1000-days this year will not include the Rocky Mountain Goat. This would not ordinarily be considered big news were it not for the fact that the Rocky Mountain Goat is widely considered to be the premier goat style event between the LaRamie Valley and the Plains of Despair. Perhaps the Swampfox has sworn off goat events now as he licks his black and blue wounds. Or perhaps he will show up in KC next December in shiny new body armor.

I guess the Rocky Mountain event will include the US Long O' champs. So, if you like really long events you won't be disappointed.

"Goats" are usually (always?) mass start events. I think the US Long Champs has used mass start some years and individual starts some years. Will it be mass start this year?

Yes, the 1000-days schedule says that the long course will feature a mass start at 9:00. The terrain is apparently very fast running and open visibility. Sounds like fun!

These details are correct. The Long Champs will be mass started, and will take place at Round Mountain, which I think is just a terrific area in all respects. Great running, interesting details, varied types of terrains make for a fun mix. And the weather in mid-August should be near ideal. Additionally, hopefully courses will be longer than they have been in the past 2 years.
