Mary Leon

Did Mary Leon not appear indifferant in Ruth's time of need? Yet, Is it not Ruth that she writes in her last days, to save her? She does attempt to visit her in chapter XLI, however I get confused when reading the conversation between the two ladies...In paragraph 3, I had assumed that it was Mary speaking, yet Mary replies. Can anyone make sense of this?
