Streamlined/Moneysaver Car Series?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Central of Georgia Railway Historical Soc : One Thread

The Microscale Decal boxcar series table listed on this site is very informative and easy to read. Could anyone please elaborate on this to list what series cars received the Streamlined/MoneySaver Service Slogan?

I have recorded at least three CG cabs that wore this paint scheme at one time or the other,#4, #37, and #75. As Allen had mentioned this was a very short lived paint scheme, possibly only as long as a year. Todd Horton

I also have a copy-slide showing caboose X-37 wearing that scheme in July 1960. -Tom Alderman

Also of interest is the photo of caboose X-4 wearing this scheme in the CofG Rwy Album, taken in 1967. How many other cabs recieved this scheme?

David,

The only boxcars delivered in the Streamlined Money Saver Service paint were the 7000-7299 series of 40' cars built by Pullman Standard and delivered in 1952. The 7300-8299 series of 40' cars was to have recieved this lettering, but Chairman of the Board Patrick McGinnis ordered that the Money Saver paint scheme be discontinued in early 1953, and those cars were delivered in the "standard" paint scheme with a small monogram later that year.

A number of cars which were repainted in the CofGa paint shops during the short tenure of the Money Saver scheme also received the special lettering. The following are known to have worn the Money Saver paint: 6715, 6427, 6014 (all 40' door and a half), 5182, 5342 (both 50' door and a half). It's very possible that other cars received this scheme when they were repainted.

There were some noticeable differences between the original Pullman Standard factory-applied version and the Central of Georgia shop-applied version. A future decal CGRHS produced decal set will include these variations.
