Water billing irregularity leads to woes

"But a review of Paterson's records did find an error - in the county's calculation of the bill."

TOWN 'N COUNTRY - A family is shocked by their December sewer bill, but officials say the charge was actually too low.

The Patersons couldn't believe it when they opened their county sewer bill for December.

The bill, based on water consumption, indicated the family had used 10 times as much water as they did the previous month.

At first, they figured there was a simple explanation.

``I was sure, initially, it was just some Y2K glitch,'' Steve Paterson said.

Then he thought it might be a typographical error: the November bill cited 1,496 gallons, while the December bill indicated 14,961 gallons.

Paterson called the county, but the answer wasn't simple. After a half-hour of explanations, he still didn't understand how sewer usage for the family's two-story town house on El Paseo Court could fluctuate so much. -SNIP- (Long Story-please refer to link)

The county said it hasnt made a mistake, that the meter reading is correct as is on the bill.

My questions would be, is there a problem with the meter, and are there others with the same meter / problem?
