Problem playing VCD with my DVD player

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello. I just bought a copy of a Jackie Chan VCD and I was trying to play it in my Phillips/Magnavox DVD player (DVD825) but it won't play properly. The picture I get is in black and white and it flips. What can I do to fix this?

the only thing i can think of that would come close to your problem is that your jackie Chan vcd is a PAL format vcd and your NTSC player does not like the PAL format. Or it could be vice versa.

which is kind of odd, as most dvd players even though are not Pal friendly wil still play a PAl vcd just fine and you would never know the difference

I had that model of DVD player and exchanged because it wouldn't play my homemade VCD's well. There are a couple of possibilities that I know of. First check to see if it is a PAL format. If it is there is a way to change that model to PAL with a couple of kestrokes. The other is that Philips had a firmware upgrade for that model because it couldn't play certain new DVD formats such as the one that THE MATRIX was filmed in. Call them at 800-705-2000

I owned a different brand of DVD player. However, most DVD player will not read home made Video CD in GOLD CD-R. Try to record it on a CD-RW Rewritable CD or copy your Jakie Chan VCD to a CD-RW and play to confirm the PAL or NTSC syatem. Hope it helps!
