Is shutter jam common with 6x7's?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

Last night, for the 3rd time since I bought it, my camera jammed in the middle of a roll. I only use 120 film, no 220. I unloaded the film in the dark, and, again, the shutter advance remains jammed. The mirror is down, the roll it jammed on is fine. Last time it happened, I was told the mirror needed oiling, which seemed wierd to me. But here it is again. I had to cut my shoot short, and my model was not very happy since she was leaving the country the same night and needed as many shots as possible for when she returns. Is there a way I can 'oil' my camera myself, if that indeed is the problem? Thanks everyone. shawn

ps haven't started working out yet...

If you are talking about the film advance, yes there have been problems with that by other owners but not me. The cause seems to be winding the film forward too fast with the advance lever. This has been a problem with the 6x7 & 67 but it was supposedly fixed on the 67II. If you are talking shutter curtain jamming, I have never heard of that happening. But, I did have mine wrinkle up a bit once but it did not jam or stop my shooting. SR

You were right with the first, Steve, the advance. When I was shooting with a manual Contax S2, I was told I was winding too fast, and I told them they (the store) were crazy. Now I'm not so sure. I guess I'll have to concentrate on winding more meditatively, which is going to hinder my style of shooting a little til I get used to it...Thanks for the verification Steve. I wonder if the fix is simple enough for me to do myself? I'm OK with precision tools if I know what I'm doing...shawn

After 7 rolls on my new P67II I got the curtain jammed so bad I even have still nightmare about... I didn't make any wrong operation, just broke itself After a 2 month repair I got it back and sincerely hope won't happen anymore!
