Misaligned cable caused BART chaos (CA)

-exerpt from article-

"The control center could not see where trains were and they could not confirm that trains had clear routes," Oversier said. "We lost the ability to run the system by computer. We had to go to manual."

No longer able to rely on data reported from track sensors that feed the train control computer, operators had to wait for verbal orders from the control center. -snip-

This is just a mechanical problem, not Y2K. Repair is relatively quick. They are lucky the complex system did not have to be reprogrammed.

Thanks John. I just looked and found this story on the Glitch Central page...and to think I went about it the hard way! LOL So many stories, so little time.

I like your SDIT designation. Much better than simply the generic OT category. We could have a whole new set of acronyms like SKT (Squirrel King Threat) or MWI (mud wrestling invitation). That would keep some people from being offended at opening something that didn't suit their fancy.

Excellent technique, Dee.

Gene,

Thank you Gene. I have one to add to the list...it's called TBPPT (The Big Potted Plant Topic). This is one we can use for sewage spills from now on:

Vandalism results in sewage spill, beach closure LINK Much of Poche Beach is closed after someone drops large potted plant in city sewer line.

SAN CLEMENTE--A big potted plant blocked a city sewer line and resulted in the closure of a large section of Poche Beach, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. An estimated 3,000 gallons of untreated waste water spewed into the ocean Wednesday night after the plant was dropped into a manhole, said Monica Mazur, agency spokeswoman. -SNIP-
