DONT TURN THIS FORUM INTO A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I'm going to be bombarded for many months to come with crap from the Clinton clones running for president. I'm pleading with you not to promote or demote any candidates whatsoever. Chemtrails are bad enough but PLEASE don't pollute this forum with the campaign trail.

I don't want to be reminded on a constant basis how the general public is going to support one loser or another because it doesn't matter which one you choose they're all the same flavor and if there is a candidate that does have the US interests at heart there won't be enough money backing him/her.

That is the quickest and easiest way to destroy this forum is by introducing campaign trail politics. I'm afraid it will sicken too many participants.

Guy,

I agree with your comments 100%. How indeed does one tell the difference between one piece of crap from another? But, as you suggest, we really don't need it here. Thanks for your observation.

-- Richard (Astral-Acres@webtv.net), February 13, 2000.

Sorry Guy, but where else are we supposed to get such condensed information? Main stream media? Think again, that's why I'm here to begin with. The information here is phnomenoil (sp) and greatly appreciated. Generally both sides of all issues are debated which allows us to weigh the information and make much more intellect decisions. I am tired of getting one sided, little or no information on issues that effect my life and will always appreciate those who have taken the time and done the research. Passing it on to the rest of us is an example of what one person can do to make difference.

This forum is a work in progress.

Guy:

In one of her last messages on Debunking Y2K, Anita predicted that this would become a major topic on TB2000. She was correct.

Remember that a lot of people read this forum. It is my guess that some things are posted for discussion. Then some things are really "published" here.

Best wishes,,,,

-- Z1X4Y7 (Z1X4Y7@aol.com), February 13, 2000.

Trish - Since we get inundated with political crap from the TV, newspaper, direct mail, radio and other sources ad nauseum we don't really need it here too.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was one sanctuary from the political bullshit avalanche that will last between now and the election?

-- Guy Daley (guydaley@bwn.net), February 13, 2000.

Moderation is the key here, V E R N (and others). You've forced me to make a mess in the 'recent answers' categories. Don't make me do it again......

There really should be only one question that qualifies a candidate or not. Does he/she FULLY SUPPORT THE RULE OF LAW, as it applies to THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES? So I suggest that everyone be allowed to bring information about their favorite choice to the forum. And whoever they are, should be held up to that standard. So far, I haven't seen one that makes the grade, and until we do, we will keep seeing the dog and pony show.....

-- KoFE (Your@town.USA), February 13, 2000.

Will, I know what you mean. My 8 week puppy recently made 'a mess' in the Recent Answers category and it took me several minutes to clean it up. .

-- Butt Nugget (catsbutt@umailme.com), February 13, 2000.

Guy, I completely agree. It was my understanding this forum was an arena for Y2K and related issues. Politics, unless somehow linked, belongs elswhere.

-- NoJo (RSKeiper@aol.com), February 13, 2000.

Where the devil have YOU been? Politics *IS* linked to *EVERYTHING* in our slave-driven lives. That's the problem bucko. I'll bet you see doughnut seeds when you look into a box of Cheerios, right?

Trish:

I agree with Guy. This is not the place for politicians to be promoted. I have read where there are people paid to go from chatroom to chatroom, forum to forum to advertise, spread political view points etc.

So really Trish, considering the anonominity of this forum, are the view points expressed on politicians genuinely from a common person? I think not - the net has become a place for people to really get brainswashed. Personally, I really question Vern's comments and just dont care to see that brand of ADVERTISING. Whether Vern is paid or not, whether Vern's views are of his own creation or not is not the point - as Vern is still advertising.

This forum is for y2k. Yes, there is airplane talk, oil talk, market talk, but this stuff can easily be related to y2k. But political? Come on, the political insertions in this forum is no different than the political insertions on TV called advertisements. It is crap most dont want to see when they come to a y2k forum.

If folks want a politcal forum, then lets create one for those to go, and I bet the traffic at that site will be nothing compared to the traffic at this site, which is precisely why this politcal crap is put here - to expose as many to it as possible to influence voting.

I fear this forum could get so diluted with totally OT political junk that reduced participation will eventually cause the forum to fail.

My dear Mr. Daley,

Sir your request causes one to wonder...Are you running for an elected position? And can't stand the competetion? (LOL).

Just kidding you. I agree with your point though. But do not know how it will be acomplished. (The Pollys/trolls all have their own agenda. And have not aceeded to the forum's requests in the past. And very likely will not give way to the forum's wishes this time either sir).

I do not need or want YOUR opinons, precooked summaries, or slanted facts for MY vote when times comes. The satisfaction of broadcasting YOUR opinion is entirely yours. You know how that is called!

-- alreadygiven (WeEfKa@the.kbd), February 13, 2000.

There has always been political discussion in this forum. I don't see why that should change now. If you don't like it, either don't read it or leave.

-- (brett@miklos.org), February 13, 2000.

Guy, I can understand what you saying... an I agree somewhat... but is y2k forum limited to just food and water for survival...or to the political consciousness of the people also? There were some politics I wasn't aware of because I don't watch TV, or recieve a liberal media newsrag, and I live in the sticks, etc... it was at TB2000 I found out some truths I wasn't aware of... by the way...what does "Y2K" stand for: YEAR TWO THOUSAND ... I am responsibile for posting much material on the forums about the man McCain... I thought it was my duty to inform the civilian population of what the old military population know about this man. If we take politics out of the forum...we remove not only the motive for y2k diruption covers ups ... but then we also remove the foresights of what is to come ... It is sort of like saying "You can't mention GOD in this forum because HE has nothing to do with y2k" ... that means for all who read the Word of God, have nothing to base their convictions on accept a failing and untrustworthy culture. There are a wide variety of topics to talk about on this forum. All of course should be dealt with within reasonable limits and that target always seems to be moving.

So, enjoy what you choose to read, enjoy what you choose not to read or take a happy pill every morning, YOUR CALL.

-- snooze button (alarmclock_2000@yahoo.com), February 13, 2000.

Yes, well..errr... goodness me. I take an idiot pill each morning. After booting up I touch base at TB2000 and read about America and its take on the world. It brings an agility not often presented in the mainline press. It is Y2K by ordinary people.

American politics is widely covered in Australia. Indeed there is so much of it that our whole antipodean culture is smothered. Reading TB2000 postings has made me appraise this barrage of stuff and look at it again. Surprisingly I find myself much more analytical regarding American issues. Can't say I am in love with the joint, but I do understand it better. You're a driven hyped up country.

Conversely, I think Americans know little about the Australian scene. If they do know anything it is Disneyesque.

I don't mind a little bit of informed poltitics. It's a part of Y2K. Anyway, isn't it grand to watch reactionary politics when the incumbents are bereft of progressives and imagination.

Regards from OZ

-- Pieter (zaadz@icisp.net.au), February 13, 2000.

Why not? It's the place for everything else.

-- Cherri (sams@brigadoon.com), February 13, 2000.

Cherri,

Minus 16 huddled by the lame flickering kero lamp, nursing a McCain grudge upon another Clinton indiscretion while carefully placing a wedge of wet firewood on the rusty stove...Sheesh! I haven't been that cold since the winter of 1963 in Northern Europe...hehehe

America and Americans intrigue.

-- Pieter (zaadz@icisp.net.au), February 13, 2000.

Gore = wooden imitation of Clinton...can't lie to save his A**

Bradley = jumping ticker, probably dead before end of 1st term.

Bush = Empty Suit (enough said)

Mc Cain = Thinks Bill of Rights is toilet paper...greatest accomplishment is blacking out major portion of Italy in hot dog stunt with a fighter plane

YUCK!!!

Mr. Daley you said:

That is the quickest and easiest way to destroy this forum is by introducing campaign trail politics. I'm afraid it will sicken too many participants.

I will give you the benefit of doubt and assume your statement is tongue in cheek in nature. Why would any subject matter whatsoever be in jeopardy of destroying this forum? Do you spend any time reading through the threads that touch on every possible subject, from viewpoints ranging from ultra-conservative to ultra- mentally challenged? Many of the participants here are already sick and beyond any salvaging.

I suggest that this forum now exists as a repository for any idea or viewpoint that will pass muster with the sysops and like all Internet sites the so-called veterans will obtain a certain favorite status. I offer as an example the poster Hawk who seems to have immunity where foul language is concerned. You will find this type of structure on most forum sites that are loosely monitored, as is this one. The bottom line is very simple, leave if you are offended or stay and debate.

Many forums such as this one have morphed from their original intent, only to flourish as a collection of personalities more so than a definitive subject matter. Where else can you converse with a rational expert one minute and a certified loony the next?

Enjoy the show!

-- Ra (tion@l.1), February 13, 2000.

I see that some of you believe that repetitive advertisements for a specific candidate has a home here at TB2000 and of course you have forgotten about the humongous pile of campaign shit that is going to be dumped on us between now and election so its okay to get dumped on here as well.

Alright so be it. I intend to step on some toes until the nails are guaranteed to fall off. Don't be the one to stick your foot in my door! You better have some pretty thick skin if you do!

-- Guy Daley (guydaley@bwn.net), February 13, 2000.

This is directed to Y2K "Pro", who seems to be obsessed with me, and all other "attack Pollys" with the same disorder:

Get a life of your own, and then you'll have something better to do than to post insults about me on every thread, whether or not I've posted on that thread or it has any relationship to me whatever.
