Aloha...It's been fun...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Well, I guess I've overstayed my welcome. I really didn't want to piss anyone off, but, I guess I have.

The Bunker is a hobby. It is an interactive way for me to learn about web publishing, HTML, CGI, Meta Links, etc. It is something for me to occupy my time and feed my desire for knowledge about how and why things work.

Because it is a hobby and not a venture for generating income or revenue, I have set personal goals. The major goal I have set is site activity. Because The Bunker is narrowly focused on things familiar to me (Y2K, chemtrails, solar flares, etc.), and because I have participated in TB2000 for about 2 years as a contributor, and since its inception, Y2K and Beyond. Initially the only way for me to broadcast the site was through postings to these forums.

Having said that, being a hobby and my desire to learn how the www works, and having a 20 year technical marketing background, I realize that no successful website was ever established via forum postings. I know that there are top seceret ways to broadcast on the www. Let's say that this is where I am now with my learning curve. Ideally, I would like to never have to post updates about The Bunker on TB2K. And I think that I'm almost there (thanks to meta tags, search engines, and other secrets about www).

I guess I'm like the neighbor who gets a new video camera. You get invited over to his house to watch a bunch of lame footage about his kids, his dogs, his vacation...well, you know the story. Anyway, I guess I'm the neighbor who bought web publishing software and now you get to look at my lame website :-).

Anyway, once I figure out the overall scheme of things on the www I won't have to post updates about the bunker anymore. But, at the end of the day I'm having a helluvalot of fun dinking around with this stuff. Will I or do I have aspirations to have a webpage as successful as Y2K and Beyond, or Drudge, or NewsMax...nope. But I will continue (isn't he a poster?) until I figure out the magic of cyberspace.

Hope my little syllabus gives you some insight into my psyche.

Good Luck all, UB

Uncle Bob,

Ignore the rude ones. You're welcome to stay and post updates on your Bunker. I'm working on an iBrochure... next... a web-site.

Fun, huh?

Uncle Bob, always keep an airhole open in your bunker, dude!

-- dinosaur (dinosaur@williams-net.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob --

I've encouraged you to keep the forum updated with your site updates, because I've found the glitch graph and the links more than a little useful. Just thicken the hide a little! I saw one littel quip -- "Give it abreak, dude!" and then this "aloha" post? -- Hey -- where are you going anyway, to hang out with eve? who was so very sensitive at the raction when she wanted to re-invite all the polly- troll!!! Smile at yourself. It's a great website. Meanwhile, I've tagged you in my "favorites "list, so if the updates must trickle down some, I'll still be checking in regularly.

Uncle Bob-- Pay no attention to the one voice I read. Do your thing. I much prefer the posts from people rather than the posts of newswire articles. I have had no success bringing up the various sections of your bunker. I installed netscape last week and find my computer switching between IE and Netscape when it needs to. So, I'll try again at the bunker.

-- Pam (jpjgood@penn.com), February 12, 2000.

Keep posting the updates, Uncle Bob. Some of us are slow. I just today visited your site for the first time and was impressed. :-) Don't know why I didn't take the time to visit before.

We humans are funny, quick to criticize what we don't like, much slower to say something encouraging. Mea culpa, mea culpa.

-- Virlie (MstMtnRain@aol.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob,

Ignore the trolls and please stay! Your humor and info have always been appreciated...

Anyway, you're way cooler than my Uncle Bob. Take care!

-- Deb M. (vmcclell@columbus.rr.com), February 12, 2000.

You can't do this, Uncle Bob, not after all we've been to each other...besides what will I tell the kids? :)

Good Sir, I've just added the Bunker to my folders.

Hope you'll change your mind. There are always the wackos looking for an identity and the only way they can do is is to sling mud. Ignore them!

You have my regards and best wishes, FWIW.

-- Richard (Astral-Acres@webtv.net), February 12, 2000.

No, No, Uncle Bob, please don't go! I'm just a lurker but I have visited your website and it is pretty cool! as are you.

-- turkeylurkey (lurker@lurkermail.com), February 12, 2000.

Bunker URL, if someone would be so kind?

-- silver ion (ag3@interlog.com), February 12, 2000.

DON"T GO! Please with sugar on it.

-- ET (bneville@zebra.net), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob!!!! Because one guy said one stupid thing you walk out on the rest of us? We can sue for intentional infliction of emotional distress. Don't leave.

-- Mara (MaraWayne@aol.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob:

When did you start letting one idiot troll get under your skin? No time that I can remember, so wht start now? Keep posting man.

-- elskon (elskon@bigfoot.com), February 12, 2000.

Long time lurker here. Please don't leave. I will never remember to check the site even tho I have been there. I really enjoy your updates and the graph is really great.

-- deja (lurkerpalace@home.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob,

I think most of us that have posted here on a regular basis, have experienced being attacked from time to time by one of the Nasty People who lurk in the shadows of this forum just waiting to Pounce! But remember if you give up and leave, then They Win. And none of us should let that happen.

I enjoy your posts and I enjoy your Bunker. Lets keep both of them just the way they are!

-- Zdude (zdude777@hotmail.com), February 12, 2000.

I agree, Uncle Bob! Ignore the trolls and keep us informed with the Updates to The Bunker. It has come a LONG way in a very short time and it is evolving into a very impressive site. Kudos to YOU!

For those of you that have not been there yet, Uncle B. has put together a "One Stop Shop" on the Net that has many many Y2K related Links to valuable and late breaking news. He has put many hours of work into it and I think that it is a valuable service that he is providing. Sure beats searching all over the web for morsels of info.

Thanks Uncle Bob!

This Way to THE BUNKER

-- LZach (lisa@texasnetworks.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob, Just went to your web site yesterday and now have it screened as a shortcut. I've lurked here for about a year and have always enjoyed your post and the humor you bring with them. Let me add mine to the growing chorus of voices and say "STAY BOY, STAY". By the way, still haven't heard the fat sing or drop the other shoe.

-- Bushmaster (sandavid@prodigy.net), February 12, 2000.

UB, One thing I have said over and over again on this forum is... ignore the slime around the edge of the pool...the real work is in the middle of the pond... especially right now, it doesn't seem to be a good time to leave...things are beginning to flame on... and about these forum guerrilla's(I wouldn't give them credit as a forum terrorist) just let them be alone like they have made their hearts...

You are refreshing...informative...humorous... and I really don't think you are someone who would stop fighting for what is good. I agree with Lisa Z. ...I just hope if you put on your thinking helmet and see that there are always idiots out there who want to break up the truth and bring it down to a comfortable level. It is hard to be honest in today's world...it is easy to be a slimeball and not care about anything but yourself... the idiot who slammed you is just some burned out bitter algae which will eventually rot and go back from whense it came! Uncle, are you electing to leave because of my semi-flame post? Where is your grit? If I am the cause, please forgive me. I always wanted to ride in a parade, bring justice for something, or be reconized for doing the right thing. It was a Web site, accessible to anyone. Jeesh! I thought I had a tender hide.

-- Research (done@forus.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob....you can see you are outvoted! It should be obvious to you how you are considered family by this group, and we have no intention of letting you disappear so easily. Your web site is really neat, and I have marked it on my "favorites", but we still want your company here! Please reconsider.

-- Jo Ann (MaJo@Michiana.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob,

Since you have been mentioning your site, on here I go there on the links given cause I am a bad puter person but I love to read things that interest me, and I prefer doing it without having to look to hard. I like your site it is now on my favorites..due to this, but, don't let being flamed get to you, I have been flamed much, but I still come back here, but you are on my list of good ones now too. Wish I could just learn how to cut and paste...

Sandy

-- sandy (rstyree@overland.net), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob, I've been to your site and have it bookmarked. You are doing a WONDERFUL job. DO NOT leave. Keep us posted. I like the topics you have on it. You are a great guy.

-- Debi (LongTimeLurker@shy.com), February 12, 2000.

Uncle Bob,

Your site has really grown just within the last week or so! I like your tastes in subject matter, pretty cool stuff, especially the solar activity. Hey, there's always a few jerks around here but that's no reason to alienate yourself. I've been keeping pretty busy around here trying to scrape some trolls off my back, so I'd appreciate it if you'd let us know when you get new and exciting things in case I forget. I bookmarked your site, but now that I have about 5,000 bookmarks I'm going to have to do some spring cleaning and put yours in my top ten. Don't be a stranger, we like hearing from you. :-)

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), February 12, 2000.

Hi Bob, I enjoy your site and think it is a useful tool! Don't let the trolls and pollies get you down!!! Stick around!

-- Carl Jenkins (Somewherepress@aol.com), February 13, 2000.

Sandy, just in case you were serious: right click on what you want to copy, then go to where you want to paste, right click again and then click paste.

-- canthappen (n@ysayer.com), February 13, 2000.

NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The majority of the forum has voted. Please stay Uncle Bob. Who is going to keep us informed?

-- Curly~Q (past1@pbtcomm.net), February 13, 2000.

Uncle Bob: It sounds to me like you have NOT been excused from the table, and therfore you cannot go out and play...unless you keep us up to date!

-- Daisy Jane (deeekstrand@access1.com), February 13, 2000.

No, Uncle Bob! Don't leave! Just take a cyber mallet and bang that stupid newbie down. Isn't it interesting how newbies who are lacking in any cyber manners suddenly show up just to toast a bunch of us oldies? Oh well, they are trying to have some social interaction because real people have no time for their ill-mannered social ineptness. They never get invited anywhere. It's only here that they can say what they like, and it's no surprise that they only piss people off.

They will eventually leave when no one will play with them.

-- (formerly@nowhere.zzz), February 13, 2000.

Uncle Bob,

Please stay; I appreciate your posts.

You know, we could even start a thread that would be kind of a support group for us OAs (Oversensitives Anonymous)...we could all meet there once a week, come up with a 12-step recovery program, and...oh, the possibilities! :)

(Wouldn'ta thought of this if it wasn't for you, SH -- an extra serving of my Wood Bread for ya...) :-)

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), February 13, 2000.

Hey "Unclbob"...I'm with them. DON'T LEAVE! (he said, with anquish in his voice). If you need to move on for reasons of "growth" well ...we wish you the best. But you have been valuable to this community. I'm getting a little sick of a few of these trolls myself. Stay if you can. Thanks for the heads-up on your web site. ...sdb

-- S. David Bays (SDBAYS@prodigy.net), February 13, 2000.

UncleBob...

If you left, it would mean that there would be one less intelligent, rational, and interesting poster on this board. Oh gaawwwwdddd, we cannot have that, now can we. Please continue to grace us with your presence. Cin =o)

p.s. Great site too!
