Aliasing / Artifcats on the edges of images.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi! All I use hardware encoder to encode Mpeg-1, VCD Complaint file to create VCD's of my projects. After the encoding process, I notice aliasing or edges being coarse in my images. Can anybody enlighten me on how to get rid of this aliasing. Merci

Hi, I don't think anyone will be able to help you with this problem without looking at the images itself. Perhaps if you can post a link to an image with the aliasing problem you are facing.

Naive: sounds like you have color bleeding on your video source or it's noisy due to high contrast or over sharpening. Try to use a hardware filter and see if this will help or use the filter option in the software encoding to eliminate this issue.

1nguyen, your suggestions are very appealing, I tried the software option, no luck. Can you recommend (names) a couple of hardware filters please ! Regards.

Naive: I've noticed in another thread you are mentioning about getting one of the optibase card. This is an expensive card. If you are planning to get this card, perhaps you should look at the M- filter from Darim. They just recently lower the price on this card to a more affordable range (399.00us). This is a hardware video filter for your capture card.

lnguyen, thank you so much for your input, I'll check the M-Filter out and get back to you.
