Music - Lo Fi Allstars - x-files

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

In regards to everyone asking about the music from the show. yes, it is Battleflag by Lo Fidelity Allstars. As a fair word of warning (I saw some people wanting to go out and buy the cd.) The version on the show was the edited version. The album version has some explicit lyrics. if that offends you, you may want to check out just the single version. Also, the album is 'a bit different.' It has a lot of spoken word. After a few listens, I really liked it, but I realize I have a bit different tastes. I agree about it's impact to the show. It was awesome. It added a lot. They did a bit of remixing of the song to get the right sound. It really worked though. The fact that the 'stabber' looked totally evil really added to the scene. This episode really reminds me of an x-files episode that aired about a month ago. (It was hte one where the serial killer goes after scully.) The first 55 minutes of the show was pretty lame, but the last 5 was great. Both shows didn't have any dialogue, just a song playing at the end and a very dramatic scene. The 5 minutes from each of these shows is the best 10 minutes of tv I have seen in a few years. Anyone else agree?

It's definitely not the album version (like Tim stated above), but it's the mixed version that can be found the "Forces of Nature" Soundtrack.

I've also made a RealAudio file of the entire song, so if anyone wants another listen, it's over at http://www.freespeech.org/minervamoon/other/battleflag.ram

Cool! I'll check it out. I looked at the lyrics and was perplexed. I could swear there was a line that went "heaven can't help us now..." but maybe I am loosing it ;-) Thanks!

WOWOWOWOW! Thanks for the music link. I played it and it all came back about that scene! (I'm still kicking myself for not taping it.)

Great link. I admit I forgot what the music was, I was so overcome with the stabbing thet that just flew right past me. This brings it back, though. It's a good song anyways. Thanks again for the link. Now I realize why everyone was asking about it.

I totally agree! I could watch that last scene (yes this is morbid) over and over! I had the music stuck in my head for days!

I HAVE NEVER RESPONDED TO ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE, BUT I WAS OBSESSED WITH THAT SONG, AND TRIED TO CONTACT NBC EVEN TO GET THE TITLE AND ARTIST. SO I AM REALLY GLAD I FOUND THIS SITE. THANKS!

Thanks for the song info. I thought I was the only one obsessed with the last 5 min. of that episode and the song (I've watched it about 10 times). Anyone notice how the scene wasn't quite as dramatic during the replay in "All in the Family" when the music WASN'T used?

Yes, yes, yes . I have been obsessed with that stupid song. And, I too watched that last five minutes many times. My sister said when she watched that scene during All in the Family without the music she was screaming, "There's no music!!" and her husband thought she was wigging. That was one of the best moments in ER history. But, did anyone else feel that the response of certain characters to what happened was not enough. Carol Hathaway did't seem to care, she was like, "Oh yeah, I heard what happened." And no one cried but Lucy herself right before she died and Carter might have had tears in his eyes when he asked Benton if Lucy was dead and realized she was. Does anyone think this was some sort of directorial touch or were they all supposed to be in shock. That scene in Doc Magoo's reminded me so much of when Shep's paramedic buddy died. At any rate, the trailers for this week's show made it look like it was going to be all about Dr. Kovach and no follow up to the Lucy/Carter incident. I think they did this once before and it DROVE ME NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!! I need more... signed, ER junkie

Glad everyone's enjoying the song :). Some people have encountered problems with it, and if you have, try using the addresses http://www.freespeech.org/minervamoon/other/battleflag.ram or http://www.geocities.com/minervamoon/battleflag.rm

And if anyone's interested, go to http://www.easyfoto.com/minervamoon/ for some screen captures of the past two episodes :).

I can't stop thinking about that episode either. After it was all over I was in shock for about 5 minutes and couldn't believe what happened. All week long I couldn't wait till the next episode. I didn't tape it either but I did tape the next week's episode that showed what happened previously. Like everyone else I could watch it over and over, and that sounds morbid. I couldn't get out of my mind the look that Lucy had on her face like God help me. That was a very powerful episode and won't forget it. Like the one person said I don't even remember the song playing I was so enthralled with what was happening. Still even listening to the music I don't remember it, but sounds like a cool song.

Thank you sooo much for the adress for the song. I'm downloading it now so I hope it works. I love that song. I really think it added to the whole sence. It made it scary. I was scared and I was upset. I'm soo mad that I didn't tape Be still my heart. But I did tape All in the family. I watched it like 50 times. When they rerun Be still my heart i'm definity taping it!!!! And I'm glad that they didn't ingore the whole stabbing in all in the fmaily. B/c in the previews it looked like there were going to. It sounds like something nad is going to happen to Carter!!! I hope not!! Did anyone see Rosie? They were at ER.

I'm actually looking for the answer to a similar question from a few seasons ago... during the episode where Carter and Lucy hook up in a deserted exam room, there is this killer song with a really distinctive guitar hook... I don't think there were any vocals heard but I heard the song in a GAP once and it had female vocals that sounded like Sheryl Crow (It's not a song on The Globe Sessions or Tuesday Night Music Club, I already checked).

Dangit, I really want to know the song... please email me if you have any info or maybe a website where I could find the info.

:) Thanks guys!

I was so enthralled with the last few minutes of "Be Still My Heart" that I didn't even notice much of the music until Cater got stabbed. I said before he got stabbed "Oh my God, something's gonna happen to Carter!" (I knew something had already happened to Lucy.) I was so upset that I didn't notice any music until he hit the floor and choked out "Lucy?" By then I was screaming at the TV, "You idiots, turn down the damn music, Carter and Lucy are in trouble!" I wish I had both of those episodes on tape. I cried my eyes out for like an hour afterwards, but I could watch them over and over. You guys aren't the only morbid ones. To my friends that don't watch "ER," (yeah, I know some losers), they were like, how could you stand to watch something like that so many times? But, I'm glad to know I'm not the only sick fan out there. Anyway, thanks for the music. When I downloaded it, I suddenly remember and I have major chills up my spine right now. By the way, I'm glad they had the sense to make Mrs. Knight show up and talk to Carter in "Be Patient." I thought they were just gonna let it pass and have Carter show up and be miraculously healed. I'm glad they had the prescience of mind not to do that. It would have been a major mistake. But he should get some physiological help, too.

Awesome website!

I went out and downloaded the song Battleflag immediatly after finding out the name, and on the epidoe, it sounded really cool loud, I turned up the vloume all the way. I started playing it, and almost immediatly, the lyrics sounded how shall I say, well, "different" than on the episode. I just hope that everyone has a fair warning, and lucky for me, my parents didn't hear, I would have had my rear kicked, so now I play it on headphones cause it is still a cool song.
