In Chap.XXXVII, I have a hard time understanding just exactly the impression Fanny Fern is trying to give the reader of Mr. Develin. I get the picture he is obviosly a conceited and selfish man. I can get the average picture of his work, but it is the image of how he engages himself in his work that is kind of fuzzy to me. To be more specific,paragraphs four and five do not register for me.
