I wondered the same thing....I am inclined to believe that the name of the man who gave the money to Katy is not of signifigance. Harry had many business associates and I think at this point in the reading that is all it was.

As with the whole book, Ruth makes correlations between her real life and this book even though some might be exaggerated more or less. I believe that this stranger that gave her Katy money is just another way to show what a wonderful person Harry was. This stranger tells Katy he knew her father and he was a good man. Good enough obviously to give this child a sum of money just because shes Harrys daughter. Pretty trustworthy gent I'd say. I dont think we will ever know who he is. He's just there to show praises for Harry.
