Nikon CP950 "System Error" halfway through 32meg flashcard

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

We just bought a 950 from firstsource.com and a 32 meg flash memory card as well. The camera "crashed" the first time we turned it on (wouldn't turn off even-had to pull the batteries to kill it). We managed to get a few pictures taken after the crash, but kept getting lots of system errors which could only be cleared by turning the camera off.

Also, halfway through a 32 meg card (kingston) (it says we have 16 images left), we get a red system error message over the lcd screen and have to turn the camera off to clear it. Finally got tired of that so we sent the camera back. They sent us another one, which we have had working good so far (few hours so far), but STILL get the red "system error" when we get to the exact same point on the memory card (image number 16).

Any ideas what this means, and are we doomed to get bad nikons no matter how many we send back, or is this a memory error (doesn't have a problem with 8 meg cards).

I had a similar problem with an 8MB Kingston card different camera, and it turned out to be a bad CF card. I put the card into my laptop and checked it with Norton Diskdoctor. It was loaded with bad sectors. The store (Computers4sure) overnighted me a new one, and no problems since.

I have seen other posting the same problem, and I think all were with Kingston cards.

I agree that you problbly have a bad card. (I have a Coolpix 950) Strongly suggest you look at the Lexar CF USB-enabled cards, with a USB cable in the package. You don't need an expensive card reader. The USB cable IS the card reader. Works like a charm!

Good luck,
