can someone please explain what the difference is between mpeg-1 and mpeg-2? I have some video clips downloaded from the web and they all say either mpg or mpeg. How would I find out if they are mpeg-1 or mpeg-2? Also how would I put them togather to create a video cd so I can watch them on my pc or a dvd player continuously instead of watching them one at a time. Thanks in advance for any input.......

Your video clips are almost certainly MPEG-1. I don't think that Windows Media Player can even read MPEG-2. The file extensions mpg and mpeg are basicly the same thing.(Kind of like webpages have htm and html, the standard is a 3 letter extension and not 4) The Video CD Format is a special kind of MPEG-1 format so you need a MPEG Encoder. You can search through the postings to get more info on the Encoders. Good Luck

To answer the direct question use the Bitrate Viewer to determine what the file is (I agree they are probably Mpeg-1):
