Advice needed on which camera (upto $1200) is best for concert photos

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi there, I currently own a kodak DC220plus digi camera but have found I'm not exactly getting awesome looking shots at rock concerts. Does anyone have any advice in which camera i should go for (bearing in mind it's major use will be taking shots in low lit concert halls). Also, if you're currently taking great shots, any tips you have will be most appreciated!

Thanks, Leigh

Not sure how good you seats are, but if you need a large Zoom then you may want to look at the new Sony Mavica FD-95. It has a 10x optical zoom. Not to sure of low light capabilities. If 3x will do, then look at the Olympus C2020, this camera has very good low light capabilities.

saw some questions and answers about this some time back - try your browser's FIND feature for *concert* or *low light* one had this link http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl? msg_id=001mj0 to some interesting info on settings to take pictures at concerts without using a flash

With the current tech I don't think digital is the way to go for a concert photo. The low light performance isn't good enough with current generation ccds, you're definitely out of flash range, and i doubt you'll be using a tripod. Crank the gain and you get noise, longer shutter speed with zoom you get camera shake and blur... ugh! A cheapo SLR with a 100mm lens and fast film might work much bett
