interesting, anecdotal, FWIW, aviation glitch "statistic"

---just asked my girlfriend about flight accidents and glitches. She was a flight attendant for EIGHTEEN YEARS. That's a LOT of flying. Her answer, in eighteen years of flying, had to make an unscheduled landing from a glitch TWICE, as in TWO TIMES. That's a nice layman ballbark "statistic" to chew on.

Jestadumb suggests it was a weak jackscrew that caused the AA 261 MD- 80 crash. Did your girlfriend ever encounter any weak jackscrews in the last 18 years of flyin'?

--I have three "no doubts"

1- I have NO DOUBT that planes, being mechanical, suffer all sorts of mechanical problems

2- I have NO DOUBT that there are reasons for the latest buncha crashes and glitches

3- I have NO DOUBT that there's y2k problems mixed in here someplace, not only the planes, ALL this stuff we're seing happening now

---squirrel-asked her, no weak screws from anyone named jack.....sorry, couldn't resist, I have zero "being fed a straight line" joke tolerance
