Update--Skimpy coats

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

We went to see the MC kittens with the "skimpy" coats. In my opinion they looked just fine, and had great little starter coats. All of her adult cats were beautiful. This breeder is pretty heavily involved with the showring, and does sell many of her cats for show purposes, so she was really speaking from a championship perspective.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to take either of the kittens home, as they were spoken for by the time we arrived. However, we did take home a beautiful 11 month-old red tabby male who is absolutely adorable and a real sweetheart. The breeder had originally wanted to show him as a kitten, but was unable to. Her husband recently required emergency surgery, and her show schedule has been completely halted while she cares for him. She was sad to see him go, and we are lucky to have him.

Having been a dog person all my life, I have to say that our new guy has converted me. In fact, all the Maine Coons I have met during my research have been so friendly and outgoing. We made a great choice!

I'm glad it all worked out for you and I am sure you will enjoy your new boy! Now I have read more of the history, I understand what the breeder was talking about (as you will see from my last e-mail on the subject....I felt there was probably an explanation for her comment on the "skimpy coat"). Sounds like you will have a great time with the red guy!
