When CSX was formed, a consistant system was needed to id train on the system, unique to their consist and origin-destination. CSX arrived at a 1-letter, 5-number designation: EX: K65210 - K was the designation for a unit train (1 commodity), 652 was the train number, 6 was mid-corridor, 52 was manifest (OJ), 10 wasthe date of origination. SO, N14012 would be N(coal)140 (Brooksville)12 date departed the coal field. In the past the OJ trains were R650, or Q650 but was later changed for simplicity.

It had no number. It ran as an extra addressed on the orders by the lead locomotive's numbers.
