Pennzoil Agres to Sell Refinery

ROUSEVILLE, Pa. (AP) - Pennzoil-Quaker State Co. is selling its oil refinery in northwestern Pennsylvania to Calumet Lubricants Co. of Indianapolis for undisclosed terms. Pennzoil said Monday that Calumet intends to use the refinery in Rouseville for wax production. A nearby gasoline refinery is not part of the deal.

Calumet has purchased a hydrotreater, deresining unit, deoiling unit, filtration unit, lab, office buildings, utilities and warehouse and blending operations. Calumet also bought Pennzoil's packaging plant in nearby Reno and its trucking business in Utah.

Last month, Pennzoil stopped processing oil at the refinery, which employs 300 people. Chris Miller, Calumet's manager of new business, said the staffing of the purchased refinery has not been determined.

He said the company will ship oil from Utah and draw wax from it in Pennsylvania for candles, glue, fake fire logs and other consumer goods.

Miller said the company has no plans to buy Penn Grade Crude, the type of oil that had been processed at the plant.

Calumet also bought from Pennzoil its half ownership of Bareco, a wax marketing company. Baker Petrolite owns the other half.

How appropriate! We'll be "waxing" for Oil Refineries, too!
