and i start to get the page and within seconds it begins to look something like a huge colored upc label?

is this a problem with my computer or is it a site glitch? would appreciate any info.

thanks for checking for me everyone. i just tried again but it is still not working on my end. i can access any other page, just not that one. strange. i can see the logos that say "the age" and then everything else becomes garbled code looking stuff and lines reminding me of a UPC symbol.

Boop...the strange thing is that a few minutes ago, I turned my computer on, and as I was dialing onto the internet, my screen did what you're describing, I think. It was the wierdest thing...I suddenly had colored lines from top to bottom, covering my screen...I could see the screen, but it was hard to read because of all the lines. I backed out, got off the internet, and the lines went away. I went on the internet again, everything was OK, then a few minutes later, the lines came back again.

And then, I could see through the page, and see what was behind it! Then, it suddenly got back to normal.

I clicked onto TimeBomb2000, click on your thread, and you're talking about the same thing happening, it seems.

Does anyone know what could cause this??

margo, that is very very interesting. i just emailed my son and he recommended i try to open it with another browser. i usually use internet explorer. i tried using netscape and it works fine that way. very strange, must be something with IE? what were you using?

Boop,

Are you insinuating that Internet Exploder is....buggy?....quirky?

How dare you!

Boop...I must confess, I'm new with computers...just got my first one about 11 months ago, and I've never had lessons, or used one at work.

So, I'm not sure exactly what you mean by browser...I use Explorer. When this first happened, I was opening Outlook Express (email), and I don't know what IE is...

Sorry...Took me forever to figure out what GI meant! When I first came to this site last summer, I thought everyone was talking about military people!

But I'm learning!

And, we are wondering if the solar activity going on these days might be having some effect?

Were your lines pink? And did you have two dark black lines about an inch and a half on either side of the cursor?

hi margo, by IE i mean Internet Explorer.

no, i don't think i had any pink. i remember royal blue and black. i just went to the site now to see what all i saw there and it is now working fine. (and that is through IE) :)

so all is well, i guess. i have no idea what caused it. i haven't been following the solar flare stuff as closely as i should have been so am not really up on that.

As mentioned above, the problem (whatever causes it?) is the browser you are using with that particular page. I get the exact same problem trying to open *this* month's page of my local ham radio group with Netscape; IE has no problem. Last month, and always before, NS did just fine.

Good morning! I turned on my computer this morning, and while I was entering my password, the screen again became filled with lines from top to bottom...I watched carefully this time...pink and light blue. I was able to go ahead and get on the internet, but in a couple of minutes the writing between the lines became fuzzy and I had trouble reading. By the way, these lines were about 1/2 - 1/3 inch apart...on the whole screen, there were probably 100 lines. And then on either side of the cursor, the two very dark black thick lines appeared again, about 1 1/2 inch long, about a 1 inch apart.

I backed off the internet, and all the pink and blue lines disappeared, but the two dark black lines remain.

Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? The lines appeared before I got on the internet, so I don't think it has anything to do with Explorer.

This happens to me sometimes at work. Shortly thereafter, I will get a message that basically says I'm running out of memory. I shut down some of my applications and then log back on. This has only begun happening recently.

For what it's worth...
