All of the above for me. Is it yours?

Wow! Quick response.

Yes. I wanted to evoke a mystery...and, of course, titilate. The lesbian/fetish/kink overtones are crucial.

well i really like it; the girl in the blindfold makes it for me. i just wish i could really see it well with this stupid laptop screen! is it selenium toned, or is that my screen?

Apparently my "utoronto.ca" posts end up at the start of the thread... This type of photograph (which I do love) is about as daring as I'm willing to get right now; for now, anything more than this, and I'll really have to blast it, which is a shame I know. As more images in this style are posted, if I don't get hate mail, maybe we can loosen up a bit, but till then, let's try to keep this type of shot as the 'most' provocative...i want as few rules as possible myself, and as much leniency (sp?), but if we want to keep this site from getting censored...well, you get the picture (pardon the pun).

Scenario?

The milieu is totally off.Complete non sequitur if your aim was anything remotely provocative, much intriguing--B&D at the botanical gardens?. This evokes the erotic as much as a shot of a bull elk at the beach does a sense of wilderness.Have a look at Helmut Newton's work for a clue or two.

I have to disagree with the previous post, there is not that much wrong with this photo, except perhaps the expression on the woman's face in the back, which misses the opportunity to add to the mystery. I do agree with Helmut, though. Sorry, I've mislaid my thesaurus!

-- Frank Scheitrowsky (fscheitrowsky@interhop.net), February 06, 2000.

Like I said, I can't judge the values here, but the ONLY thing which might take away from this for me is what Frank said: the back woman's expression, which to me is just a little 'off'. Although I'm only judging the photo, not the intention behind it...and the genre is not my forte so I'll stay quiet on that.

ps maybe we can spice it up a BIT. The longer I look at this, the more I realize in my own opinion it's not near the 'threshold" of acceptability, especially when I imagine a Newton-esque on the site, which I wouldn't have a problem with at all as long as the models were clothed...can't call me dogmatic...(confusing maybe, though...)

"Threshold" is a word which I'm sure is going to cause a few debates around here...

The thing about a photo like this is, it's still got to make some sense. It's got to tell a nasty little story. The model on the right is looking disinterestedly off to one side. She should be looking at the woman she is trying to dominate or looking at the viewer and I expect to see an expression of smug pleasure and/or cruelty. The blindfolded model should look either scared or turned on or preferably both. The hiking up of her skirts should either be for her own pleasure or something she is being forced to do for the other woman. You're not that far off the track though, keep posting.

I'd like the background to be a bit more blurred to make the women stand out more. Also, the woman in back looks distracted and out of place.

-- Chris Ober (caober@ev1.net), February 06, 2000.

I agree with the woman in the background comments: she looks worried (why?) and distracted. Have her look at the other woman with an evil? smile or something. The forground woman OTOH looks like she is really enjoying herself: wonderful!

I disagree with a comment that was made about the background: I like a bit of context. But ideally I would have put a male model in the far background: just blurred so you can't really see him, but not so blurred that you are not sure it is a him.

Maybe without a background model open up one stop to give a little more focus on the women.

Too much forced innuendo and not enough angst ridden psychology for this trite concept. The light is sooo flat that there's no mystery or intrigue at all. Try some creative printing to save this image, or better yet reshoot, take some powerful light (grids and light interruptors) and make the background recede and the light harder on these subjects. A hint of the labyrinthe (which is barely provided by the Bot Garden Background) might add some badly needed metaphorical support for this image, which, in it's current manifestation, looks like the Junior League trying to misbehave at a soiree in the Hamptons between tennis matches... t

How's that for a first contribution? whew... sorry Peter... t

I agree t, and not much balance or compositional symmetry in it either(a very disturbing amount of bilateral)....again Peter and I'm trying as hard as I can to be constructive ....but they are so overwrought and manufactured that any mystery/titillation is killed by melodrama. Plus I can't get around the tilted cinema veritae horizon...it's just so 80's. Primarily it's the balance...this one is much better than the other but neither are up to intriguing me. What would I do differently? most of it is just in composition...

Sorry, I get a feeling of disinterest and borderline boredom from the partcipants in this photograph, w/c may or may not be the relationship of its participants (other than the possible lesbian/fetish overtones). I like it, its intrigueing though it doesn't seem to make any overt or covert statement to me. Did you know what you were trying to convey through this photograph beyond its subect matter/elements? Would you care to tell us why you made the photograph and/or what you were trying to express through this photograph? This photograph is "almost moody" - its really doesn't raise any questions to me as far as its scenario is concerned though I do like looking at it more for thinking about how it can be improved since you start with strong elements that sort of fizzle out for me in the acting/mood department. Technically this and your other "similaresque" photo are excellent and I too would be curious as to the technical data stuff (along with the reason you made this and what you were trying to show or even hint at beyond just the evident subject matter/actions). Medium format Rollei/Hasselblad shot near wide open and sepia toned in either real life or photoshop. People mention Helmut Newton, is he one of your influences? What and/or who (and why? of course)) inspired you to make this (and the other) shot. Enquiring minds

oh man don't let Helmut hear you say that....Helmut's stuff is large!

Clift notes or Reader's Digest Condensed version?... t

Lewis (I am not a number): the Prisoner, or Maiden? Are you a free man?

-- shawn gibson (SeeInsideForever@yahoo.com), February 16, 2000.

Subject matter has potential (sex always does). But Newton is a master of composition.
