What movie would you recommend I take Barb to see tomorrow? Bear in mind that Barb is a movie buff, as enthused about movies as I am about books.---Al

i can recommend that you NOT see what we saw just last evening, "topsy-turvy," with the fine jim broadbent, the interminable and, despite what all the critics are saying, perfectly dreadful new flick about gilbert and sullivan--and i LIKE gilbert and sullivan. also, while "the end of the affair," with ralph finnes and the ever-lovely julianne moore, is o.k., it was all done much, much better in "the english patient," another finnes flick. "magnolia," with its huge ensemble cast, is as unique, and puzzling, as everyone is saying. "sweet and lowdown" is, by my humble lights, the worst, i.e. least interesting and thus least enjoyable, flick woody allen has made in years and years--and i LOVE woody allen. "being john malkovich," with its fine cast of john cusack, cameron diaz, the ever-delightful mary kay place, even (what's that ol' game-show guy's first name? "arson"? no...orson!) bean--and, of course, john malkovich, may be right up your proverbial alley, al: sci-fi-ish, and fun, and interesting, and engaging, and unique. "the straight story," with richard farnsworth, is as lovely a quiet little story as everyone says. "the talented mr. ripley" is a winner, something of a tour de force, very different--and i don't even particularly like matt damon. did

I recommend GALAXY QUEST. We howled with laughter over this delightful romp. It's a classic. There's not many movies I'd care to own, outside of ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW and THE PRINCESS BRIDE, but this one I'll enjoy watching again.

The Green Mile - it is fabulous! It is a long one though!

Maybe i am late with my answer, but go see Scream. Nothing like a scary film on date night. You can hang all over each other and be terrifically terrified!! Have fun!!
