No serial port to plug camera into

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I got an Olympus D-450 Zoom for Christmas. I have no serial port to plug in camera into cpmputer. I have a scanner but the port is the wrong size. I don't know what to do. I have a $500.00 to $600.00 camera and I can't use it.

Fran - with the smart media card you can get a floppydisk adapter - just slip the memory card into a slot on the floppy and pop it into your computer's disk drive. (My Olympus floppy adapter came with software for the computer) It is fast and simple.

My only port has my mouse in it. Maybe newer computers have more ports? Anyhow, I got a floppy adapter from Egghead.com and it works fine.

The cheapest solution...Load you software then turn off your computer, unplug your mouse and plug in your camera. Turn the computer back on and it will tell you it can't find the mouse, thats ok though you can move around with the keyboard. Use your tab key, Alt key combined with the first letter of the items in any tool bar and your Windows key and arrow keys to move around. It takes a little practice but it can be done reasonably easy. When the pictures have downloaded, exit the computer with your Windows key and your arrow keys and turn off the computer. Plug the mouse back in and away you go.
