new "Hairball Treatment" dry food: good for MCs?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

I've been feeding our two 10 y.o. Maine Coons Sci. Diet "Hairball Treatment" Light dry food for about a month, along with wet (canned) food and some of their prior dry food (to ease them over to new dry food).

They LOVE the hairball dry food, but they still bring up hairballs almost as often as before.

Do others have experience with this type of food?

Thanks

Dear Donna, I can't speak for Maine Coons in particular with this new food, but my 10 yr old shorthair kitty only rarely has hairballs now. I used to have 1-2 to clean up each week, now only about 1 per month. I don't feed any wet food and she's always eaten science diet. I've also given her that new Pounce with hairball remedy occasionally. Hope that helps. Sharon

Try the Iams Hairball Remedy- worked even better for my long-haired kitty than the Science Diet. We switched nearly two years ago now. You would probably want to still use a supplementary treatment like Petromalt if the hair is long regardless of cat food.
