OT: Was there a thread ref. hacker accessing charge cards?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Does anyone recall something about this in a recent thread? Today I learned there are 4 charges from 1/31 on my charge card, which I have not used and for which I cannot account, and the company can't tell me what they are either until the "slips come in." Thanks.

Check out http://www.msnbc.com for today if you have been ordering anything online, especially if they didn't proof of industry-approved encryption. There is a story about a bunch of web sites that dropped or never had adequate security as of sometime last year, so credit card info was easily visible to hackers. (And regardless of their having the slips in hand, they should have remove those charges should be gone as of your phone call. They can always add them back if it turns out something slipped your memory.)

Elaine, if I'm remembering the correct thread, 'twas not a hacker, 'twas Da Fedz (and they haven't done it for sure -- yet)...
