I have a Sony DVP S300 DVD player. Does CD-R VCDs work on the Sony DVP S300? Thank You.

A Lee, I don't think so. At least the cd-r/cd-rw i'd tested in this dvd player. If you want to see which DVD player(s) will work with your CD- R VCDs, i would suggest that you do what i did. Take one of your VCD and go shopping with it. Ask your local electronics stores to test it on the models that are available on the display. See which one will acknowledge your VCD and which one will not. So far I've found only two DVD players that will work with homemade CD-R/CD-RW VCDs, they are Pioneers and Phillips brands. Both brands are dual laser optics. I'd found out the hard way! I bought a Toshiba 3109 before testing and found it will not play my homemade VCDs!!!! So I bring one of my VCD and the Toshiba back to the store and convinced them to exchange for a Pioneers, which i tested with the VCD. When you test the DVD players, make sure the unit acknowledges that the CD-R is a VCD and plays the disc.

A Lee,

Yes CD-R VCDs will work in the DVP-S300. This player DOES feature Sony's "Dual-discrete laser pick-up" which is just a fancy way of saying it has two different lasers, one for CDs and one for DVDs.

Don't get it confused with the DVP-S330 though. That's the newer version of the same model. Sony decided to take the dual-laser feature out of this player to lower the cost. Only CD-RWs will work on this player.

Hope that helps.

How may i ask that you can get a cd-rw to work on the sony DVD player model you have mentioned? what type of cd-rw media do you used? what authoring tool do you used? I can't get any Sony to even acknowledge my cd-rw or cd-r. The same cd-r and cd-rw will work on the Pioneers and the Phillips but the Sony won't even acknowledge them.

I agree with the comment about taking your cd to the store and trying it. I did that and had the same results. I bought the Philips and have found that it momentarily locks up at various places on the disk. I took a CD I made on CD-RW to the store earlier this week and found it played on every brand in the store. That basically was 2 Sony's a Toshiba , a Panasonic and Pioneer

lnguyen,

I created a VCD first by encoding it with Panasonic MPEG1 Encoder, authoring with VideoPack 4 and burning it to CD-RW in WinOnCD 3.6 PE. I tested the CD-RW disc on a Sony DVP-S330, DVP-S530 & DVP-S550 and they all played it fine. Incidentally, the Pioneer & Philips players had trouble playing it. The Panasonic (I forget which model) also played it successfully.

I use Maxell media for testing purposes and Sony for final output.

Ah i see. I have heard that Sony CD-RW will work on Sony DVD but i have not test it yet. So far I have only used CompUSA, Memorex, and Immitation CD-R/CD-RW. Had tried Memorex CD-R only on the Toshiba and it doesn't work, but the CD-RW will. Thanks for the info.
