gods child question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : It's All About Joe 90: The Discussion Board : One Thread

okay, what's up with the apostrophe?

i noticed when i went to search the net for gods child i had to leave out the apostrophe to get any info. now i'm finally getting around to reading the lyric sheet in 'everybody', and there are no apostrophes there either.

did a formal anti-apostrophe discussion take place? is there some kind of history here? did someone have a bad apostrophe experience as a child?

this reminds me of my favorite poem:

"apostrophes from hell"

trust no comma, say the experts. it may be one of them.

Answers

Chrisnotseefried, this is an outstanding question.

i, too, have pondered the wonders of the apostrophe.

sometimes i see it with, sometimes without. both CDs appear sans apostrophe, but i've seen it listed other places with.

sometimes you feel like hyphenation, sometimes you don't?

would love some info on this one!

i wondered about this too. jill has raised the possiblility that "gods" is meant to be taken as a plural rather than a possessive. but shouldn't that just make it gods'? because it would still be a possessive (the child of multiple gods.) wouldn't it? my head hurts.

i fear no apostrophe. now, semi-colons on the other hand . . . . . .

kristin, i think you are correct, as usual.....

they just HAVE to have an apostrophe. its not grammatically correct in ANY way without, is it?!

hey i like the new picture aimee! yanno, when you first enter the site.....

Joe90 looks *SO* *ghetto*! they are like HOMEBOYS superemo! ;)

now im really itchin' to know the answer to the apostrophe catastrophe.

trying saying THAT ten times fast.

Here's my take on the whole apostrophe thing:

Who ever said band names had to be gramtically correct? Lyrics aren't. I think they named themselves gods child with no apostrophe just to annoy all of their adoring fans ;) Okay okay, in all seriousness, I think it's just a typo or something, or confusion somewhere or another... maybe they only use it when they feel like it.

I'd also like the real answer though, just cuz now it's starting to bother me and make me think... and god forbid I'm forced to think ;)

bye for now,

-AJ

Okay folks....the moment you've all been waiting for....the apostrophe question answered. How about this....The band was really named pods child but the printers made a mistake and put a "g" instead of a "p" and it was too late to do anything about it so we just went with it.

Gary

ps. if you believe that, I've got some land in......

oh my god. everything is clear now (it's just that it's a bring down.) Joe 90 = pod people. that explains so much.

however, it still doesn't answer the apostrophe question - because that would just make it pod's child. i think gary is trying to divert our attention from the issue at hand. have we stumbled too near the truth? what DID happen to the apostrophe?

and who IS bip ruda anyway?

...............

joe90 = the pod people?!

is this anything like the body snatchers?!

be afraid. be very afraid. the truth is out there.

kristin, protect me?!

speaking of pod people...

i was reading through the guestbook last night, and i came across a post from someone who recognized us as people from the boston shows...we were the "aol people". i had totally forgotten about that! that's pretty cool. but also kinda scary.

i am interested in knowing what the deal is with the apostrophe. just because i'm anal like that, and punctuation is key! i try. maybe i should start using capital letters at some point.

did you all know today was the day the music died? 1959, i believe.
