You mean I'm first? I like it. But then I'm partial to 'gallows humor'. On a thread a year or more ago someone objected to some of the humor on TimeBomb2000. I posted a reply with info I'd learned when my daughter worked with the Sheriff's dept. That gallows humor is one of the things that make it possible for LEO's and emergency medical personnel to cope with yet another call to a 5 vehicle pileup on the interstate. They try not to let survivors and/or relatives hear, compounding their pain. I, for one, would rather they made macabre jokes than to 'lose it' before saving my or my loved one's life.

So true. The same philosophy exists in newsrooms, where the deadline pressure is tremendous and the stories aren't always pretty.

I remember a time--right around the first of the year--when the gallows humor posts to tb2000 were essential for keeping many of us from biting our nails to the quick.
