1. Who is telling the story? What is the relationship of the storyteller to the deceased?

2. Was ethnicity a factor in the killing of Santiago by the Vicario brothers?

A friend of the deceased is telling the story. If I remember correctly the storyteller's mother was the godmother of the deceased.

In response to the second question, it was mentioned several times that Santiago was Arab, but I don't think thap played a part in his death. the Vicario brothers had it in their head the killing needed to happen, "it was a mater of honor", plus there was that impulse toward violence.
