Cool web site with OKers' routes on a Clinton map.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

There is a very cool web page that lets people post courses and lets people who ran the course draw in their routes. The link below should take you to a leg on the Clinton Rockcrusher map with routes that Gene, Dan and I drew in. http://www.fi.uib.no/~jankoc/htbin/routechoice.cgi?a=showroute&nr=24

The main page for this site -- with lots of other maps and routes -- is at: http://www.fi.uib.no/~jankoc/htbin/routechoice.cgi

I have yet to get this page to work. Best I've done is to get two circles with a straight line on the first page. I also have seen the map by clicking on one of the buttons that talks about loading the map, but I still haven't seen the routes yet.

Can more specific directions be posted for us dummies?

Under the map you should see a list of names (Dan, "Mean Slo Gene", and my name twice). The names are links -- if you click on Dan's name, his route will be drawn on the map. If it still does not work, it may be that your browser is not up to date. According to the guy who built the page:

RouteChoice is a tool which allows you to draw your route choice and look at other competitors route choices at a orienteering map, one leg at a time. RouteChoice requires Java and JavaScript - and works with Netscape 3.0/Internet Explorer 4.0 and newer. I am told that there are problems with Netscape 4.5 and 4.6 - and would like more information about this!

The netscape 4.5 and 4.6 are the latest browsers I think. It may be that older versions of Netscape will work. What web browsers are known to work on this site.

I use Netscape, and just had to install 4.7 because of constant annoying messages after the 1st of January that the security might not be the best.

But I was able to make it work (or it just happened to work the last time I went there). Now I will explore how to put in my route.
