Every society needs a cause (whether it be the Michigan Militia or Aunt Clara's quilting group down at the Lutheran church.). And that's all these Internet forums are - a social group. I can see the cause of this group morphing more towards oil, stocks, and hush-hush conspiracies. So what's wrong with that? Everybody needs a hobby. If you feel as though you need to join some other social group, no one is stopping you.

No offense, but this is a big planet, and lots of people do lots of things. You and I (I know) are welcome to, as well. The greatest sin is in telling the others what they can and can't do.

This is a troll post. That's probably why it's being deleted. That's just what it deserves.

-- (brett@miklos.org), January 31, 2000.

Oh nooooo, looks like perhaps the debunkers are 'on the way, or have they arrived?'

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), January 31, 2000.

What makes you think it's a troll post, Brett? He's not on the list of regular trolls, and the post itself is not inflammatory or even off topic. What else makes this a troll post?

-- Die Fledermaus (shadow@alliance.org), January 31, 2000.

Look Lurker, if the Sysops deleted your post, it's probably because the same question keeps popping up everyday. If you've lurked here for any time, you've seen it asked before.

What's it to you, if people what to check each other's pulse on a regular basis?

If you want to leave, please do so. No one is chaining your camel to our server. Fold your tent, and head out to YOUR next oasis.

Of course it's inflammatory. He wants us all to stand up and admit how wrong we were, he complains about censorship here, and is apparently ignoring the repeated deletions of his message and continuing to post it, making him a SPAMMER.

I think consumer is right, probably one of the debunker jerks.

He might not be on the list of trolls, but he should be.

That was an old post Larry and a lot of people responded to it. Probably dropped off new answers by attrition or duplication Did you check the archives before you started whining? Gawd

-- Charli (claypool@belatlantic.net), January 31, 2000.

They sometimes delete posts because of what happens down the thread...it can get disgusting and perverted responses, even if the initial post is acceptable. Larry, why don't you write to them and ask if you are so upset? They track the IP addresses folks, they aren't exactly dopes.

-- lyn (lynhettler@hotmail.com), January 31, 2000.

Larry,

Given the fact that there are very ominous signs pointing to a MAJOR market correction and/or oil crisis (dare I say recession/depression??) and that there are currently people in not-so- northern cities freezing their asses off, I'd say it's bit early to ring down the curtain. Even though the weather that created the probs in the mid-Atlantic wasn't Y2K related, the end result for those people who were not prepared is the same.

As to "sustaining a movement", I think you'll be unhappy to find that we'll have no need to do this. Events themselves will overtake anyone's efforts at "spin".

Jimmy

[Sob story not credible. Wording, syntax, IP same as Y2K Pro. Same slimey themes hammered on. Find another group more welcoming of your tired antics.]

-- Larry Lurker (larry@lurker.com), January 31, 2000.

No, Larry, thanks to SYSOPS today, anybody can go over to Debunki and see that Y2KPro's IP address is different than yours (posted). I don't know why he called you Y2KPro, though.

-- Die Fledermaus (shadow@alliance.org), January 31, 2000.

Because that's who he is.

-- (brett@miklos.org), January 31, 2000.

Is it me or is there MANY new folks here? Seems to be an 'influx' of them....>>?? hummmmmmnnnn

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), January 31, 2000.

To me, it seems kind of funny that someone would get so upset that a post would be deleted.

I feel I am a "guest" here.

Should I become an unwelcome "guest" and find my responses or questions being deleted, I'd go to one of the other "million or so" other places on the net and find folks of "like mind" to converse with.

Personally, I don't understand the problem, if the Sysops were continually deleting threads the majority of people wanted to respond to, we would hear about it.

We don't, so go someplace else, duh???
